The Bulldogs had a busy and successful week. Varsity players are consistently improving their play and seeing their scores drop and their finishes go up. Junior high golfers saw all teammates make the top 10, including a medalist.

The Bulldogs hosted nine schools for an invitational at Whetstone Creek Golf Course north of Milbank on Tuesday, September 8.  “We had our best meet of the year as a team. Three golfers posted scores in double figures,” commented Mark Keeton, head coach for MIlbank. 

Thomas Bass dropped a whopping 20 strokes in one week to card an 86. At just 14 over, he took 15th place for the Bulldogs. Milbank’s Seth Van Hoorn shot 98 for 31st place. Jaxson Bear finished at 100 for 35th place. Jeryn Bormann claimed 42nd  place with his score of 105.

Pierce Mathiason took 49th place at 120.

Oakley Whipkey came in 51st at 132.

Tyson Lawrence of Watertown was named the medalist. He shot a 77 at  five over par. Jaxson Rise of Tri-Valley took second place at 78. Brody Williams, also of Tri-Valley, shot a 79 for third-place honors.

Tri-Valley was the top team at 41 over and a score of 317  (2) Sioux Valley – 329  (3) Watertown –  330  (4) Aberdeen Roncalli – 345  (5) Sisseton – 385  (6) Groton – 387  (7) Milbank – 389  (8) Redfield (9) Tiospa Zinna 479.

Groton Invitational
Varsity golfers traveled to Groton on Thursday, September 10.  “As a team, we dropped our score by 31 strokes compared to the NEC tournament held earlier in the season at Groton,” commented Milbank’s head coach Mark Keeton .”Thomas Bass continued his solid play with back-to-back scores in the 80s. Jaxon Bear and Seth VanHoorn have been consistent contributors and are staying in double figures.” Jaxson Bear, an eighth grader in his first year starting for the Bulldogs, carded his season low score of 94 at Groton. He earned 21st place for Milbank.

Liam Johnson of Groton was the medalist at two over par at 74. Bulldog Thomas Bass shot an 87 to claim 11th place for Milbank.Seth Van Hoorn and Jeryn Bormann took 24th and 25th place at 98 and 99 respectively. Pierce Mathiason came in 33rd at 119.

Sioux Valley won the meet with 326 points. Sisseton was second at 332. Groton took third at 33.  Redfield was fourth at 356. Milbank took fifth place at 378.  Roncalli finished the course at 381.

“I like where we are heading with two more weeks of meets to go before heading into regions.,” Keeton added.

Bulldog Drayven Olson took first place in the seventh-grade division with his score of 68. Anakin King shot an 84 to crack the top 10 and bring home ninth place for Milbank.  In the eighth-grade division, William Wyant was the runner up with his score of 72.
