Runners Take Third at NEC Meet

The Milbank Area boys and girls cross country teams finished third in the team standings at the Northeast Conference meet Thursday, October 8, in Webster.

The girls finished just one point behind Webster Area. The Lady Bulldogs totaled 46 points while the Bearcats tallied 45. Redfield-Doland secured its seventh consecutive NEC title with 39 points. Danica Schulte led the way for Milbank Area with a seventh place finish. Taylor Thue was close behind at eighth while Madi Thue finished 16th overall. Amaya Street placed 17th, Allison Leddy, 20th; Jatana Grajczyk, 24th; Shauna Pauli, 25th; Christina Lusk, 26th; Shea Hooth, 27th, and Sophia Seffrood, 34th.

In the boys division, Milbank Area wrapped up third place with 44 points. Webster Area won its first NEC title since 1973 with 21 points. Redfield-Doland was second with 24. Tanner Bock led the boy’s team with an eighth place finish. Dylan Johnson followed with 11th place while Luke Wold finished in 14th. Rounding out the team was Kody Johnson, 17th; Caden Bjordahl, 22nd, and Jordan Pollock, 37th.

The teams will compete in the Region 1A cross country meet Thursday, October 15, in Webster in hopes of earning a berth to the state Class A meet. The state meet is slated for Saturday, Oct 24, in Sioux Falls.
