The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss to the Sisseton Redmen Thursday, October 15, at the Milbank Armory. Milbank Area dropped to 12-9 on the season.

The teams battled it out in a rival matchup. The Lady Bulldogs struggled with the scrappy play of the Redmen and fell 25-19 in the opening set.

The teams teetered back and forth throughout the second set until Milbank Area broke the game open at 15-10. The Lady Bulldogs continued its advantage until Sisseton came back and knotted the score up at 20-20. Katie Cannedy dropped in two tip-kills followed by a Sisseton error to take the lead at 23-20. Molly Rick and Caryssa Mielitz each belted out a kill to wrap up the win at 25-22.

Milbank Area fell behind early in the third set and struggled to keep up its intensity. The Lady Bulldogs trailed 8-16 but worked their way back into the match by cutting the score to 21-22. Milbank Area committed two errors before Sisseton pounded out a kill to take the win at 21-25.

The fourth set was very similar to the third in scoring. The Lady Bulldogs got off to a slow start, but battled its way back to even the score at 7-7. The teams exchanged points, one at a time, and tied up the score eight times before settling at 20-20. Milbank Area struggled to control its offense and committed two final errors and fell 25-21.

Mielitz led the Lady Bulldog attack with 19 kills on 67-71 hitting, two aces on 12-13 serving and 26 digs. Cannedy followed with 10 kills on 30-33 hitting and 21 digs while Rick added nine kills on 21-29 hitting and 24 digs. Rachelle Gabriel tallied eight kills on 27-30 hitting and three blocks. Mikaela Hoeke ran the offense with 112-112 setting and 37 assists, 11-11 serving with one ace and 24 digs while Mackayla Schuelke helped out with five assists on 34-34 setting, one ace on 13-14 serving and 18 digs. Madi Schulte rounded out the team totals with two aces on 12-15 serving and 13 digs.

Milbank Area will travel to Mellette to take on the Northwestern Wildcats Saturday, October 17.

Junior Varsity and C Team – The Milbank Area JV team suffered a 2-0 loss to the Redmen with scores of 22-25 and 29-31. The C team dropped 2-1 with scores of 20-25, 26-24 and 7-15.
