The Grant County Christian Service Council is providing a needed service within the local community by hosting a food giveaway drive every other month in cooperation with Feeding South Dakota.

The most recent giveaway took place Wednesday, August 16, where 9,242 pounds of food was disbursed to 221 families. “This time we had a good amount of meat provided to the families,” said Interlake Community Action Partnership community service worker Heather Rise. “It’s great to see such a variety of foods given away to families in need.”

Seventy volunteers also gave of their time to help distribute the food. “We want to thank the many volunteers that came to the event,” Rise expressed. “Also a thank you to those who baked the wonderful cookies for the volunteers, and to Runnings for letting us use their shopping carts. We look forward to the next giveaway.”

The next food giveaway is scheduled for Wednesday, October 18, at the Grant County 4-H grounds exhibit building.
