Lucille Frances Mertens, age 88 of Ortonville died January 7, 2018, at Fairway View Communities.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank.  Rev. Caleb Schewe will officiate and burial will be in the Milbank Cemetery at a later date.  Visitation will be at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.

Lucille Frances Mertens was born on October 9, 1929, in Grant Center Township, Grant County, SD.  She was the daughter of Royal and Edith (Schwandt) Mertens.    She was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank.  Lucille attended rural school at Grant Center #5, one year of high school in Milbank, then attended and graduated from Minneapolis School of Business.

Lucille lived in St. Paul, MN from 1956 until 2016.  She worked 38 plus years for Waldorf Paper Company.  During her career, Lucille went through two printing presses.  In 1987, the Minnesota Twins won the World Series. Lucille was the printer for the boxes of Wheaties cereal containing the Twins photograph.

Lucille loved to travel and was fortunate to enjoy traveling to several foreign destinations.  She enjoyed crafts, reading, and puzzles.  She was a devoted and die-hard fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.  While living in St. Paul, Lucille was a member of Jehovah Lutheran Church.

Most recently, Lucille had been living at Fairway View Communities in Ortonville.

Left to cherish her memory are three sisters: Marilyn (Charles) Stemsrud of Stockholm, SD; Elva (Dan) Vietzke of Blaine, MN; and Beverly (Dean) Hanson of Milbank, SD; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William.
