Lois Jean Miller, age 87, resident of Milbank, SD, died on March 16, 2019, at Milbank Care and Rehabilitation Center in Milbank.

Funeral services for Lois Jean Miller are scheduled for Friday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. Rev. Thom Bowsher will officiate. Visitation will be at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Lois Jean Allen was born on May 2, 1931, to Harvey H. and Agnes O. (Berkner) Allen in Milbank, SD. She attended grade school in Milbank and graduated as the Valedictorian with the Class of 1949 from Milbank High School. Lois Jean then attended college at South Dakota State College in Brookings. On August 10, 1958, she married Harold F. Miller at Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. From this union they had one son, Charles Allen Miller, who was born on December 3, 1959.

While in Milbank, Lois Jean worked at Milbank Mutual Insurance Company. In 1958, the couple moved to Minneapolis, MN, and Lois Jean was employed with Iowa National Insurance Company. In 1964, Lois and Harold moved back to Milbank where she continued her career in the insurance industry, working at Midwest Security Corp and for Stockholm Mutual Insurance Company as their secretary/director. She retired after working for Grant County Review in Milbank.

Lois Jean was very faithful and active member of Central United Methodist Church. She served as a church organist for 22 years, was a Sunday school teacher, taught the immigrant Sunday school class, and was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Gospel Singer’s Choir. Additionally, she was a member of Esther Chapter #20 of Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, St. Bernard’s Hospital Auxiliary, Grant County Historical Society, and Red Hat Society.

Left to cherish her memory are her grandsons: David Charles (Cathy) Miller, and Aaron Michael Miller; ex-daughter-in-law, Carla Miller; special friend, Daryl Stengel; and many other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Charles; and parents: Harvey and Agnes.
