Milbank Gymnasts Win Opening Meet

The Milbank Area gymnastics team won their opening meet of the season with 127.25 points at the Sisseton Triangular on Monday, December 2. Head coach Amber Fraasch said, “Our goal was to score between 127 and 128 points, and we accomplished that.” Maddie Gustafson, Greta Snaza, and Dani Yamaura also earned their first state-qualifying scores of the season.

To qualify for the state meet, a gymnast must receive three qualifying scores in that event in varsity competition prior to the state meet. Qualifying scores for Class A are 8.6 on vault and floor, 8.3 on beam and bars, and 33.00 in the all-around competition, which is one point higher than last year. Gustafson scored an 8.6 on floor. Snaza also hit an 8.6 on floor and an 8.9 on vault. Yamaura earned an 8.75 on beam. Madison Mathews also earned a personal best score on the beam (7.70) and in the all-around competition (30.60). Snaza, Mathews, and Yamaura completed the meet with no-fall beam routines. ““We will continue to work on consistency and completing our combinations
and connections,” stated Fraasch.

The Milbank junior varsity team also won the top spot with 106.95 points. “The gymnasts did a great job performing even though they were very nervous about their first meet,” Fraasch said.

Personal best scores were achieved by Lindsey Hartman (beam, floor, and all-around), and Laney Forrette (beam and all-around). Zoe Theis and Addisyn Krause competed for the first time as junior varsity gymnasts. Theis, Forrette, and Riley Overby each had a no-fall beam routine.
