Dom Boerger struck out 25 batters in the Milbank Firechiefs 2-1 Eastern Dakota League amateur baseball win over Volga on Wednesday, June 24. Boerger’s strikeouts tie for the second most strikeouts in an amateur game in South Dakota’s history.

Boerger, who is also a standout left-handed pitcher for Dakota Wesleyan University, allowed just three hits, one run, and one walk as he went the distance for the Chiefs. Volga scored its lone run in the fifth inning, but Milbank quickly answered with two runs in the same inning. Travis Lester and Ronnie Krause each connected for one hit to lead the Firechiefs to victory in their season opener.
