LeRoy “Sonny” Tippie

LeRoy “Sonny” Tippie, age 61, of Marietta, MN, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, as the result of a vehicular accident.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Marietta First United Church of Christ with Rev. Matthew Silker officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday.

LeRoy Marvin Tippie was born on June 30, 1953, in Billings, Montana to Harold and Alvina (Presler) Tippie. He attended school in Hardin, Montana. While living in Montana, Sonny worked on ranches, a cattle feed lot, and also drove truck. He loved horses and had the pleasure of raising horses and cattle, as well as riding bare back in Montana. In 1988, Sonny and his family moved to Bowdle, SD, where he worked for several farmers in the area. In 1997, Sonny began working for McFleeg Feeds in Bowdle. He moved with the company to Madison, MN in 1997 and to Watertown, SD in 2004.

In 1993, Sonny met Edna and they shared their lives together for the next 22 years. While living in Bowdle, Sonny loved hunting and fishing with his sons. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and had the ability to make everyone laugh. Sonny enjoyed putting up hay to feed his cows, and loved his Border Collie and best friend, Jake.

Left with his loving memory is his mother, Alvina Tippie of Aberdeen, SD; his partner, Edna Schroeder of Marietta, MN; his children: Matthew (Amber) Tippie of Madison, MN; Butch (Amy) Tippie of Watertown, SD; and James “JJ” Tippie of Watertown; and four grandchildren: Lilly M. Peschong; Amanda Vreim; Brandon Vreim; and Mason Matthew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Tippie; and sister, Mabel Jowske.
