AMHERST, S.D – A Claremont, S.D., man, identified as Darren Stahl, was killed in a one-vehicle rollover that occurred Sunday night, one mile north of Amherst.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said Stahl was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on 415th Avenue/113thStreet when he lost control as the road turns from gravel to asphalt. The vehicle entered the west ditch and rolled an unknown number of times.

Stahl was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.  A passenger, Thomas Stahl, 21, of Groton, suffered minor injuries.

Sunday’s rollover occurred at 8:05 p.m.

The Highway Patrol says seatbelts were not worn. The rollover remains under investigation.

Other agencies assisting at the scene were the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, North Marshall County Fire Department and Britton Ambulance Service.
