Dorothy Berg Schuelke, age 88 of Milbank, formerly of LaBolt June 7, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Milbank.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Gary DeRouchey will officiate and burial will be in the LaBolt Cemetery.

Dorothy’s family will greet friends on Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church beginning at 6 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Musicians will be Sandy Tucholke, organist and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir. Honorary bearers will be: Jeff Knott and David Knott.

Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Corey Sauerwein, Paula Johnson, Laura Hageman, Tanner Berg; and nephews: Warren Berg, David Peschong, Tom Peschong; and niece, Gloria Orthaus.

Dorothy Mae Peschong was born September 19, 1926, in Alban Township, Grant County, SD. She was the daughter of Nick and Malinda (Helm) Peschong. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank, SD. The family moved to LaBolt, SD in 1939. Dorothy attended grade school and two years of high school in LaBolt. She graduated from high school in Strandburg, SD in 1944. She attended summer school at Aberdeen College and taught school for three years in Madison Township.
Dorothy was united in marriage with Gordon Berg of LaBolt on August 31, 1947, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Revillo, SD. They made their home on a farm in Madison Township, north of LaBolt. To this union four children were born: Loreta Mae, Karlene Marie, Teresa Louise, and Mark Gordon. Dorothy later married John Schuelke on December 8, 1990. Dorothy lived on the farm until June of 2007, when she moved to Golden Living Center in Milbank.

Dorothy was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society since 1947. She served as an officer of many different kinds throughout the years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters. For many years, she volunteered on the election board in Madison Township.

Dorothy loved the great outdoors, especially her flower and vegetable gardens. She was well known for her strawberry shortcake and rhubarb bars. In the summertime she enjoyed the company of her nephews and nieces who came to stay for the summer. She loved to play cards with her great aunts and her sisters. She also enjoyed bowling and belonged to a bowling league for many years.

Grateful for having shared Dorothy’s life are her children: Loreta Wiese of Watertown, SD; Karlene (David) Wollschlager of Revillo, SD; Teresa (Raymond) Sauerwein of Aberdeen, SD; Mark Berg of Ortonville, MN; four grandchildren: Paula (JR) Johnson, Corey (Jennifer) Sauerwein, Laura (Jeremy) Hageman, Tanner Berg; six great grandchildren: Brodey Sauerwein, Shaye Sauerwein, Weston Sauerwein, Ryder Johnson, Asher Johnson, and Greta Hageman; one sister, Janice Witherspoon of Milbank, SD.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; three brothers: Dale, Roger, and Jerry Peschong; two sisters: Mary Knott and Ardell Carlson; and one son-in-law, Earl Wiese.
