Charles Miller, age 87 of Wilmot died June 23, 2015, at the Wilmot Care Center.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank. Pastor Nathan Zastrow will officiate and burial will be in the Wilmot City Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 – 5 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. Visitation will continue in Milbank on Monday, one hour prior to the service. Gloria Hanson will be the organist.
Charles Miller was born July 9, 1927, in Wilmot, SD. He was the son of John and Martha (Dikstaal) Miller. He attended rural school at Lee #2, Roberts County, SD. Charles served in the United States Army, enlisting on May 4, 1955. He was based in the Marshall Islands in 1956 at the Atomic Energy Commission Proving Grounds on Enewetak Atoll for nuclear testing. He was honorably discharged on February 13, 1957. He returned to Wilmot and was united in marriage with Gladys Thielman on March 21, 1957.
Charles farmed all his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball and Vikings football fan. He and Gladys loved to travel and have visited 49 states and Canada. Charles enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee and good conversation with friends at the local café.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gladys of Wilmot, SD; two sisters: Mary (Allan) Cameron and Ann Ammann, all of Wilmot, SD; sister-in-law, Arlene Hansen of Wilmot, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: George (as a young child), Arie, and Franklin; one sister, Minnie Gerber; and two brothers-in-law: Myron Ammann, and Russell Hansen.
