If money has been a bit tight lately, and Back-to-School is putting even more of a strain on your wallet, don’t despair. Stop in Monday, August 10, at the Milbank Visitor Center to get free school supplies and other Back-to-School treats.

The Grant County Service Council, along with Interlakes Community Action, Grant County Combined Appeal, and the Salvation Army, will host a Back-to-School Picnic from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. All families in need of a little extra help are invited.

The Christian Service Council, which has provided a boost to students for numerous years, will be giving away the free school supplies. “We have given out school supplies to about 110 children each year in the past and we are striving to help that same number this year,” noted Janet Loeschke, volunteer for the council.

This year, the event includes extra benefits. “The program has expanded due to generous donations from the community,” Loeschke said “and this year, we will be able to give these families more.”  In addition to the free picnic and school supplies, free family photos will be taken by VPD Studio, children will receive a voucher for a free haircut, and a voucher for a free pair of athletic shoes, socks, and underwear from Shopko.

Students will also have the opportunity to select a free School Pride hoodie corresponding to their respective school.  Students from the Milbank, Big Stone, and Grant-Deuel schools are invited to participate.

For questions, contact Steph Bagaus at Interlakes Community Action in the Grant County Courthouse.
