The Milbank Firechiefs wrapped up its season with a 12-6 first round loss to Lennox Wednesday at the South Dakota State Class B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell.
Milbank got on the scoreboard first with one run in the top of the first. Lennox came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning and added two in the second to widen the gap to 5-1. The Firechiefs plated one run in the third. Taylor Boerger led things off in the fourth with a single followed by a walk by pick-up player Trevor Cassels. Jesse Krause then belted out a triple to score Cassels and cut the deficit to 5-3. Ronnie Krause hit a line drive to left field which scored J. Krause, and the team moved to within one at 5-4 where the inning ended.
Lennox notched three more runs in the sixth to move ahead 9-4. The locals answered with two runs in the top of the seventh. Lance Frogner and Matt Stephan were both hit by a pitch to start off the inning. Adam Mills, another pick-up player for Milbank, hit a single to load the bases for the Chiefs. Travis Lester hit a sacrifice fly which scored Frogner and advanced the other two runners. Boerger than belted out a single which scored Stephan and moved the score to 9-6.
Lennox came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and one more in the eighth to secure the win. Lennox scored its 12 runs on 13 hits and had no errors while Milbank plated six runs on 12 hits and committed five errors in the contest.
Boerger led Milbank with three hits and an RBI. J. Krause tallied two hits, including his triple, two runs and one RBI while Frogner added a single and double hit, two runs and an RBI. Mills, Lester, Brock Gomer and Cassels contributed one hit each to Milbank’s totals.
