The Milbank Area Bulldog golfers improved their scores during the Sioux Valley Invitational boys golf tournament Thursday in Volga. “Looking at the scores, it is nice to see that nearly everybody improved from the Poet Invitational,” noted head golf coach Mark Keeton.

Adam Thomas shaved eight strokes off his score with a final round of 91. He was just two strokes away from placing in the tournament. Thomas shot a 49 and a 42. “Volga is a nine-hole course,” explained Keeton. “We talked about how our scores should be better playing it the second time around, so it was great that everybody’s back nine was better than their first.”

Will Mischel completed the day with a 104 (54-50), which was six strokes better than the first meet. Isaac Nolz dropped eight strokes for a final round of 108 (54-54) and Casey Buttke also cut eight strokes for a 117 (61-56) on the day. Rounding out the team was Noah Pillatzki with a 118 (63-55).

Milbank finished seventh in the team standings with a score of 420. Aberdeen Roncalli won the event with a 329. Sisseton took second with a 334 while Sioux Valley was third at 348. Other team totals were: Groton, 358; Brookings junior varsity, 365; and Redfield-Doland, 428.

“We plan to keep improving as the year goes on,” concluded Keeton. Milbank will travel to Dell Rapids Monday and will host the Northeast Conference meet Thursday, August 27, at Pine Hills Golf Course.
