The Milbank Area boys golf team struggled yesterday at the Hub City boys golf invitational, but earned medals at the Northeast Conference meet last Thursday, August 27.
The Bulldogs finished with a disappointing team score of 451 and 11th place at Lee Park Golf Club in Aberdeen yesterday with winds on a tough course. Adam Thomas led Milbank Area with a 97 which tied him for 34th place. Isaac Nolz was 50th with a 107 while Noah Pillatzki tied for 52nd with a 111. Also competing for the Dawgs were Will Mischel, 136; Chase Pinkert, 137, and Keaton Hagen, 138. The top 20 received medals.

Aberdeen Central won its first meet in the past two seasons with a team score of 322. The Eagles Connor Preston was the medalist with a 72. Jonah Dohrer, son of Milbank graduates Chris and Barb (Tracy) Dohrer and grandson of Doug and Peg Dohrer of Milbank, finished 14th with a score of 85. Other team totals were Pierre, 325; Aberdeen Roncalli, 338; Watertown, 346; Sisseton, 352; Huron, 356; Groton Area, 386; Mobridge-Pollock, 396; Aberdeen Central JV, 397, and Redfield-Doland, 401.

Thomas and Pillatzki earned their way to a medal at the Northeast Conference boys golf tournament last Thursday at Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank.

Thomas fired in a 41 on the front nine holes and a 42 on the back for an 18-hole round of 83, which was good enough for third place overall. Thomas was 16 shots better than the Poet Invitational that opened the season. Pillatzki finished the day with a 96 and a 14th place medal. He shot a 44 on the front and 52 on the back. He also was 16 shots better than the previous tournament at Pine Hills.

Also competing for the Bulldogs were Nolz with a 102 (54-48), Mischel, 115 (54-61) and Pinkert, 124 (61-63). Nolz dropped 14 shots while Pinkert was 19 shot better than the first meet of the season.

Milbank Area finished in fourth place in the team standings with a final score of 396. Aberdeen Roncalli was crowned the NEC champs with a score of 337. Sisseton was the runner-up with a 357 while Groton Area took third at 374. Redfield-Doland rounded out the team totals with a 418.

The Bulldogs seventh and eighth grade players competed at Sisseton on Thursday, September 3. The varsity team will be back in action Saturday, September 12, at 10 a.m. in Groton.
