Stewart Otto Steen was born on October 10, 1930, in Graceville, MN, to Melvin Anton and Tamina Louise (Jacobson) Steen. He was baptized on November 9, 1930 and confirmed on April 29, 1945, at St. Pauli Lutheran Church. Stewart attended country school through the eighth grade until he was called to help on the family farm. He had the honor to grow up and reside in the Clinton community for his entire life.
On April 26, 1953, Stewart was united in marriage to Mavis E. Henrichs by Rev. Clarence Johnson at Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton. To this union, two children were born. Stewart worked all his life on the family farm until health issues forced him to retire in the early 1990’s. He then became the maintenance man at the Clinton Good Samaritan Center for over twenty years.
Stewart was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. An active member, he served on the church council for St. Pauli Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church. Stewart was also a member of the Farmers Elevator board for many years and the Fisherman’s Club. A true outdoorsman, Stewart enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and camping. He especially loved fishing and was a master fisherman, always the one to go to for guidance as to where the best fishing spot was. He was also passionate about Minnesota sports and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, and Gophers. Stewart had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes, especially Ole & Lena jokes. Most important to Stewart was his family and he adored every moment spent with his wife of 62 years, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish Stewart’s memory is his wife, Mavis Steen of Clinton; daughter, Kathy (Allan) Guse of Ortonville; son, Del (Jody) Steen of Dodge Center, MN; four grandchildren: Heidi Guse (special friend, Ray), Derek (Nissa) Guse, Jeff Steen (special friend, Megan), and Jenna Steen (fiancé, Travis); and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Payton Guse.
Stewart was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Larson; brother-in-law, Arvid Larson; and nephew, Mark Larson.
