Milbank sophomore, Adam Thomas, is the lone Bulldog to qualify for the state Class A boys golf tournament. He conquered the feat with an eighth place finish at the Region 1A golf meet at Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank Monday, September 28. Thomas shot an 18-hole round of 85, his second lowest score of the season.
Thomas advances to the state tournament which is slated for Monday and Tuesday, October 5 and 6, at Pine Hills Golf Course in Milbank.

Milbank Area finished seventh in the team standings with a final score of 421. Aberdeen Roncalli was named Region 1A champs with a 341. Dell Rapids was second with a 343 while Sisseton edged out Madison by one stroke with a 351. The top three teams from the region meet advance to state. Other team totals were Madison, 352; Sioux Valley, 366; Groton Area, 399; Tri-Valley, 457, and McCook Central-Montrose, 512.

Gabe Heller of Aberdeen Roncalli and Nate Nielson of Sisseton battled it out in a one-hole playoff for the medalist honor. Heller came out on top as the region champion. The top 27 competitors will return to Pine Hills next week for the state meet.

Chase Pinkert was eight strokes out of placing with a 107. Rounding out the team for Milbank Area were Isaac Nolz, 114, and Noah Pillatzki and Will Mischel, 115 each.

“Our scores are going in the right direction,” stated Milbank Area head golf coach Mark Keeton. “We are a young team. We just need to get more rounds under our belts and keep playing.”
