Eugene Wagner, 83, of Milbank, died on October 13, 2015, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at the church and continue one hour prior to the service.

Rev. Keith Bicknase will officiate and music will be provided by Kristy Tostenson. Casket bearers will be Eugene’s grandchildren: Wayne Tilbury, Darin Tilbury, Eric Larson, Evan Larson, Maggie Larson, Mitchell Wagner, Jacob Wagner, and Benjamin Wagner. Honorary bearers will be his great-grandchildren: Addison Tilbury, Harper Tilbury, Piper Tilbury, Tanner Tilbury, Carsen Tilbury, and Broden Tilbury.

Eugene Harold Wagner was born on December 30, 1931, in Marietta, MN to Louis and Arlene (Danielson) Wagner. He was baptized by Pastor Brenne as an infant and confirmed on March 25, 1955, by Pastor Walz in Revillo, SD. On September 3, 1953, Eugene was united in marriage with LaVonne Poppen.

Eugene worked for the Marietta Telephone Company, the R. F. Clark Constuction Company of Marietta, MN, and also worked on the Earl Lundin farm. Eugene was a former member of the Town and Country Club in Revillo. A lifelong Lutheran, he was currently a member of Emaunel Lutheran Church.

In his free time, Eugene enjoyed fishing trips with family and friends, pheasant hunting, deer hunting, playing cards, and working puzzle books. He especially enjoyed all the times he spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Left with his loving memory is his wife, LaVonne, of Milbank; children: Kathryn (Calvin) Tilbury, of Marietta, MN; Daniel (Beth) Wagner, of Milbank; and Connie (Kevin) Larson of Milbank; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters: Donna Wagner of Minneapolis, and Judy James of Winterset, IA; brother-in-law Gerald (Dixie) Poppen; sister-in-law Seletha Poppen; and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Henry and Laurena Poppen; daughter, Debra Ann; and brothers-in-law Dean Poppen and Dick James; and sister-in-law Karen Poppen.
