The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 3-0 victory over Tiospa Zina during the opening game of the Region 1A high school volleyball tournament. The action took place tonight in the Milbank Armory.
The locals got off to a solid start and dominated the entire match. Milbank Area won all three sets with scores of 25-7, 25-8 and 25-10.
Caryssa Mielitz led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 kills on 27-28 hitting, three aces and nine digs. Rachelle Gabriel followed with eight kills on 13-15 hitting. Mikaela Hoeke dropped in five aces on 11-11 serving, 24 assists on 60-61 setting and two kills. Mackayla Schuelke went 12-12 setting with four assists, one ace and 12 digs. Other team leaders for Milbank Area were Molly Rick, five kills; Madi Schulte, four aces; Katie Cannedy, three aces and three kills, and Alexis Folk, two kills.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on Webster Area Thursday night in the second game of semi-final action. Milbank Area will take the court approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the Sisseton vs. Groton Area/Aberdeen Roncalli match slated for 6 p.m.
