Harry Pinkert, age 95, of Ortonville, died Thursday, November 12, 2015, at the Ortonville Area Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at Alban Cemetery.
Harry Franklin Pinkert was born on January 11, 1920, in Alban Township, Grant County, South Dakota, to Rudolph and Lydia (Dahme) Pinkert. He attended rural school in Alban Township and graduated from Ortonville High School. Following high school, Harry was drafted into the Army Air Corp on April 15, 1942. After his honorable discharge on December 5, 1945, he returned to the area and began farming.
On March 27, 1945, Harry was united in marriage to Arla Serck at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Alban Township. To this union, three children were born. After their marriage, Harry and Arla made their life long home on their farm in Grant County. A devoted and passionate farmer, Harry farmed the rest of his career.
Harry was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville. He was a previous 4-H leader and loved to go bowling. He was especially passionate about gardening and enjoyed growing apple trees and maintaining his huge vegetable garden.
Left to cherish Harry’s memory are his children: Elroy Pinkert of Redwing, MN; Mavis (David) Reupke of Ortonville, MN; and Norma Pinkert of Big Stone City, SD; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and brother, Armin (Bea) Pinkert of Big Stone City, SD.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arla Pinkert on April 20, 2013; twin sister, Harriet; brother, Paul; granddaughter, Denise; and daughter-in-law, Jan.
