Doris Cameron

Doris Cameron, age 84, of Wilmot, died Monday, November 16, 2015, at the Wilmot Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at 10:30 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot with Rev. Dr. DeVern Schwenn officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilmot City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, November 23, from 5-7 p.m. at the church and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday.

Urn bearers will be Doris’ sons, Matthew and Timothy Cameron.

Doris Marie Cameron was born on November 4, 1931, in Wilmot, to Alfred and Rosa (Gubka) Nielsen. A lifelong resident of Wilmot, she attended grade school and graduated from Wilmot High School with the class of 1950. On October 20, 1950, Doris was united in marriage with Kenneth Charles Cameron in Wilmot. To this union, they had four children.

Primarily a homemaker, Doris enjoyed raising her family but also spent time with her brother, Jim, operating a wood-staining, painting, and papering business in Minnesota and South Dakota. She was a spectacular cook and was famous for her homemade buns and cookies. Doris enjoyed nurturing her flower gardens, sewing for her grandchildren and others in the community, and oil painting. She had a beautiful singing voice and was honored to share this gift with others. Most important to Doris was her family and she cherished every moment spent as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Doris was an active member of the Zion Community Church in Wilmot.

Left with Doris’ loving memory is her husband, Kenneth Cameron of Wilmot, SD; children: Ann (Robert) Seidell of Revillo, SD; Tim (Karen) Cameron of Fleming Island, FL; Patricia Cameron Lund of Madison, SD; Matthew (Peggy) Cameron of Wilmot, SD; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Dixon of Tucson, AZ; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Nielsen and Jean Jones, both of Wilmot, SD and several nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and six sisters.
