The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs struggled to collect a state tournament win as they suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss to Mobridge-Pollock in the consolation semi-finals Friday.
Milbank Area battled for each point in the opening set but fell 25-20. The locals sails deflated slightly, but they pushed for each point in the second set before dropping 25-18. The third set was much the same as the Lady Bulldogs struggled to get its sets up, hit into the open court and pass efficiently. Milbank Area lost 25-16 in the final set.
Rachelle Gabriel led the locals attack with 10 kills, four blocks and two digs. Caryssa Mielitz followed with eight kills, one ace and 11 digs. Molly Rick added one kill and nine digs while Mikaela Hoeke had one kill, 14 assists, two aces and 15 digs. Madi Schulte led the Lady Bulldogs defense with 16 digs She also dropped in one ace. Mackayla Schuelke had three aces, four assists and eight digs. Katie Cannedy rounded out the team totals with one ace and seven digs.
Milbank Area will face Red Cloud at 9 a.m. in the seventh place match of the tournament.
