JoAnn Labbe, age 81, of Milbank, died Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Milbank Area Hospital – Avera Health.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank with Father Gary DeRouchey celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, November 23, at the church with a prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at a later date in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Milbank.
Honorary bearers include all of JoAnn’s friends and family.
JoAnn Labbe was born on September 4, 1934, in Milbank, SD, to Joe and Lucille (Tyne) Jurgens. She attended St. Lawrence School and graduated from Milbank High School. She then furthered her education, attending South Dakota State University. On August 4, 1956, JoAnn was united in marriage with Jerry Labbe at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
In 1968, JoAnn took a trip around the world. She then returned to school, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1972 from Northern State University. JoAnn was a teacher for the Mobridge and McLaughlin, SD school systems until her retirement. In 1990, JoAnn and Jerry moved to Milbank.
JoAnn was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank and a past member of the Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed traveling, spending three years after retirement traveling in an RV, and cherished time spent visiting with friends and family.
Left with JoAnn’s loving memory is her husband, Jerry Labbe of Milbank; sister, Mary Aesoph of Sioux City, IA; and brother, Tom (Cecelia) Jurgens of Bella Vista, AR. She was preceded in death by her parents.
