Gymnasts Vault into New Season with Big Changes

The Milbank Area gymnastics team has plans for a winning season and a new coach to help them on their way. Amber Fraasch has taken over as head coach after serving as assistant coach for seven seasons. She coached at American Gold Gymnastics in Fargo prior to relocating to Milbank and has played an integral part in the local program with her business, Vertical Horizons Gymnastics Club. “I primarily started that to feed the high school program,” she stated. Fraasch is also employed full time at Valley Queen Cheese.
Fraasch will be assisted by Stacey Weinkauf, who is in her second year with the team, and newcomer Amy Yamaura. Jena Schulte is beginning her
second year as the middle school coach. Karla DeVaal has also been a part of the coaching staff for seven years and will assist again this year.
The team has several gymnasts returning to the team with varsity experience. Leading the team will be Natalie Stohr, the lone senior. Joining her are juniors Brooke Fraasch and Emma VanVooren; sophomores Jody DeVaal and Emily Dornbusch; and freshman Mackenzie Weinkauf.
Vying for varsity spots will be sophomores Maty Lightfield, Christina Lusk, Bernet Artykoeva, and Kim Hoffman; and freshmen Taylor Dragt,
Ashley Spors, and Kimberly Van Sambeek. Student managers are Jamie DeVaal, Amberley Warren, and Mya Johanson.
Fraasch said the team is excited to be preparing for upcoming competitions and adjusting to the transition of a new coach. “There is a learning curve that is to expected,” she said,” but we are excited to start where they left off last season.
