Seven students from Milbank High School were selected to participate in the 25th annual South Dakota North Area Honor Band. The band will present its concert Saturday, December 5, at 7 p.m. at the Thomas F. Kelly Theatre on the campus of Aberdeen Central High School. Retired band director from Brandon Valley, Mr. Bob Goheen, will be the guest conductor.
Twenty schools and over ninety students have been selected to participate in honor band. Representing MHS are senior Rachelle Gabriel, trumpet; junior Jamie DeVaal, clarinet; sophomores Sadie Holland, Christina Lusk and Chase Pinkert, clarinets, and freshman Kellie Christians, percussion. Senior Rebekah Tuchscherer (trumpet) was also selected but will be taking part in the state oral interp festival.
The South Dakota North Area Honor Band was created when area band directors began expressing an interest in providing a regional opportunity for their experienced instrumental musicians. Upon nomination by local directors, students who auditioned for the 2015 SD All-State band are seated first in the ensemble with additional students of high caliber completing each section. “It remains the goal of the directors to increase the interest in instrumental performance and to provide a top level learning experience for the more advanced high school band students of this area,” explained MHS band director Susan Karels.
Admission to the concert will be charged at the door.
