Members of Whetstone Valley Electric Cooperative have been experiencing intermittent power outages and blinks due to ice and fallen trees on the power lines. This is predominantly affecting areas near Sisseton, Agency Village, Wilmot, Summit and Strandburg.

Kevin and Cindy Krakow of rural Strandburg experienced a power outage from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon. “WVEC linemen are amazing,” Cindy said. “Thank you for your countless hours in fixing the lines so we can have power again.”

Crews are still in the field working diligently to make repairs on the distribution lines.

Cooperative General Manager Dave Page noted, “People should be very careful to avoid low hanging and down power lines. Assume that these lines are energized and dangerous.”

It is important that members call in to report outages. Sometimes the phone lines are quite busy, but Whetstone Valley Cooperative considers each call to be very important. They can be reached at 605-432-5331.
