The Milbank Middle School student council group challenged the entire middle school to a penny war competition in which the group raised funds to purchase gifts for children on the community Angel Tree this holiday season. The school raised over $1,000 and purchased gifts for 20 children.
“The kids did an awesome job,” stated middle school student council advisor Heidi Wellnitz. “We are very proud of their accomplishment.”
The Angel Tree contribution was the group’s second quarter service project. The students assisted in wrapping the gifts and then delivered them to the Milbank Visitor Center for the families to pick up.
The penny war winner was Mrs. Bastian’s homeroom followed by Mr. Olson’s homeroom, who was the winner of the two midway challenges. “Mrs. Bastian’s homeroom class was able to sneak ahead at the last minute by using some inventive fundraising,” explained Wellnitz. “It was good fun had by all for a great cause.”
