laverne schweerLaverne Schweer, age 70 of rural Milbank died December 27, 2015, at the Milbank Area Hospital-Avera Health.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Rev. Caleb Schewe will officiate and burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Milbank.
Casket bearers will be: Calvin Moser, Randy Athey, Kevin Schweer, John Steltz, Greg Powell, and Alan Schweer.

Laverne William Schweer was born February 14, 1945, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Herman and Alma (Loeschke) Schweer. He graduated from Milbank High School. Laverne was united in marriage with Kathleen Maye Glover on August 14, 1971, in Hecla, SD.

Laverne was a life long resident of Grant County. He was a dairy farmer and worked as a dealer for Mallard Seed Corn. He later worked for Bituminous Paving as a chipper operator and equipment transporter. Laverne was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod). He enjoyed hunting, fishing (especially ice fishing) and trap shooting. He was proud of his children and cherished his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen of rural Milbank; three daughters: Sara (Michael) Mulso of North St. Paul, MN; Megan (Steven) Kuhnau of East Bethel, MN; Sena (Ryan) Dahl of Inver Grove Heights, MN; one son: Matthew (Cassidy) Schweer of North St. Paul, MN; ten grandchildren: Zachary Mulso, Cameron Mulso, Elaina Kuhnau, Adrianna Kuhnau, Jonah Kuhnau, Carolyn Kuhnau, Owen Dahl, Isaac Dahl, Gage, Dahl, and Harper Schweer; one brother: Donald Schweer of Milbank; three sisters: Esther (Edward) Steltz of South St. Paul, MN; Dorothy Schweer of Boise, ID; and Evelyn Powell of Chamberlain, SD.

Laverne was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Alma; one brother, Ervin Schweer.
