Darold Davis

Darold Davis, age 87 of Wilmot died January 1, 2016, at the Wilmot Care Center.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 8 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot.

Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 5 – 7 pm. Burial will be at a later date.

Honorary Bearers will be: Marlys Bruneau, Stan Wood, Maythol Pischke, The New Year’s Eve Speckin Dickin supper group (Lutkemeiers, Greens, McDonalds, Kruses, and Maxwells), and the staff at the Wilmot Care Center.
Urn Bearers will be: Leon Amdahl, Andy Anderson; Darold’s nieces and nephews of the Davis and Hjellming families; and all his grandchildren.

Darold Duane Davis was born August 15, 1928 in Wilmot, SD, the son of Alfred Elmer Davis and Emma (Nowka) Davis. He attended school in Wilmot and graduated from Wilmot High School with the class of 1947. He was united in marriage on May 25, 1951, with Lois Darlene Hjellming. Darold served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Darold and Darlene farmed together in Lake Township, farming land, raising pig, and milking cows. Darold retired from farming in 1992 and moved into town. He worked at the vet clinic, as a part-time school bus driver, and at Cenex in Wilmot. He was a faithful and active member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher. Darold served as Lake Township Clerk for several years, was a member of the NFO (National Farmer’s Organization), a board member of the ASCS Office in Roberts County, and a member of the American Legion. He also served on the board of directors for the Cenex Coop. Darold enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also liked to travel and visit with friends. He had a quick sense of humor and always had a joke to share. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Skip-Bo and whist. Darold was also an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.

Darold Davis is survived by his wife, Lois Darlene Davis of Wilmot, SD; his children: LeRoy (Julie) Davis of Corvallis, OR; Michael (Penny) Davis of Wilmot, SD; Darwin Davis (Lannett Brown) of Huron, SD; Janell (Tim) Reyelts of Wilmot, SD; 11 grandchilden and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Marlys Bruneau of Hoquiam, WA; a brother-in-law, Stan Wood of Novato, CA; and a sister-in-law, Maythol Pischke of Webster, SD.
