Bulldogs Continue to Fight

The Milbank Area Bulldogs boys basketball team fell 55-40 to Deubrook Area Tuesday, January 5, at the Milbank Armory. The Dawgs battled and stuck close to the Dolphins throughout the opening period. Milbank Area went ahead late in the quarter with two big three-point shots by sophomore Jonny Ash. Deubrook Area answered with a three of their own to take the 14-12 first quarter advantage.
Milbank Area struggled to get its offense into a groove and were outscored 13-7 in the second quarter. The Bulldogs remained behind 27-19 at the midway mark. Tough defensive pressure by the Dolphins and quickness up and down the floor led to the locals demise throughout the second half. Milbank Area trailed 39-28 heading into the final stanza and were unable to recover.
Nolan Foss led the Bulldogs with 12 points, eight rebounds and one blocked shot on the night. Ash followed with six points, five rebounds, three assists, and one blocked shot. Kyle Montag chipped in six points, four boards, and one steal and Nate Bien added six points and two rebounds. Jacob Jackson contributed four points, three rebounds, two steals, and two turnovers in the contest. Mitch Quade had four points and two turnovers. Also adding to the totals for Milbank Area were Matt Lenards, two points and three rebounds; Tanner Gauer, one rebound, one steal, and one turnover; and Cody Dockter, one rebound and one turnover.
The Dawgs hit just 28 percent of their shots from the field, making 14 of 51 attempts. Milbank Area was 9 for 13 from the charity stripe for 69 percent and completed the game with 38 rebounds, seven steals, three assists, two blocked shots, and seven turnovers.
Deubrook Area went 21 for 56 from the field for 38 percent shooting on the night. The Dolphins collected the win with 42 rebounds, seven steals, one assist and eight turnovers.
Milbank Area will travel to Friday tonight.
