_DSC0041The Milbank Bulldog wrestling team saw a lot of mat time this past weekend with a quadrangular in Chamberlain Friday followed by the River City Rumble tournament Saturday in Chamberlain.

Several younger wrestlers filled vacant spots in the Bulldogs lineup, left open because of illness. Alec Bien, Jake Anderson and Cole Dockter were replaced by JD Lusk and Brodie Holtquist while the 152 pound weight class remained open for the locals. “We had young guys step into the lineup that wrestled well for their first varsity action,” noted Milbank head coach Jeremy Tostenson.

In the quadrangular Friday, Milbank battled close with Chamberlain but fell 51-30. The Bulldogs came back to down Todd County 66-15 and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte/Dupree 63-15. Milbank has a 12-6 dual record following Friday night’s action.

Jordan Pollock and Chris Loutsch led the locals with a 3-0 record on the night. Eli Fischer, Tyler Krause, Toby Schneck, JD Lusk, Brodie Holtquist, Jose Chen, Taran Mogard, Ben Nelson and Tanner Kettwig each completed the event with 2-1 records. Riley Folk went 2-0 while Koben Huber was 1-0.

Six grapplers secured a top four finish in the River City Rumble tournament Saturday. Eli Fischer and Riley Folk led the locals by placing third in their weight classes. Brodie Holtquist, Taran Mogard, Chris Loutsch and Koben Huber each finished fourth in the tourney.

Milbank placed seventh in the team standings with 75 points. Huron won the event with 229.5 while Douglas was the runner-up with 150. Mitchell came in third with 132, and Chamberlain was fourth with 129. Rounding out the point totals were Belle Fourche, 98; Lemmon, 86; Todd County, 26; St. Francis, 10.

Milbank will host its final triangular of the season Thursday, January 28, at the Milbank Armory. The Bulldogs will battle Britton-Hecla and Webster Area for a chance at the Northeast Conference dual title. The Dawgs need to secure two wins to repeat as dual conference champions.
