Lady Bulldogs Drop To Redmen

The Milbank Area Lady Bulldogs were so close, but eventually fell 44-37 to the Sisseton Redmen Friday, February 5, as part of double header basketball action at the Milbank Armory. The locals drop to 5-11 on the season with the loss.

Both teams battled it out throughout the first three quarters of play. Milbank Area found itself in foul trouble early in the first half and were unable to get things rolling offensively because of several unforced turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs held a one-point lead at 11-10 and 19-18 after two quarters of play.

The teams fought for every single point, and the locals maintained their advantage at 29-27 heading into the final stanza. Sisseton came back with a huge fourth quarter. The Redmen outscored the Lady Bulldogs 17-8 in the final period to secure the 44-37 win.

Caryssa Mielitz produced a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Molly Rick followed with nine points, two rebounds and two turnovers. Mackayla Schuelke tallied seven points, five rebounds, one steal and two turnovers while Mikayla Street added four points and three turnovers in the contest.

Also contributing for the Lady Bulldogs were Mikaela Hoeke, two points, four rebounds and two turnovers; Cara Berkner, one point, one rebound and one steal; Karlee Mertens, two steals and three turnovers, and Sophia Seffrood, three rebounds and one turnover.

Milbank Area went 14 for 37 from the field for 38 percent shooting in the contest. The Lady Bulldogs finished the game with 30 rebounds, four steals and 15 turnovers.

Sisseton made 31 percent of its shots from the field, hitting 10 of 32 attempts. The Redmen won the game with 26 rebounds, 12 steals and 12 turnovers.

The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Webster Thursday, February 11, for its only contest of the week.
