The Milbank Area Bulldogs came from behind to edge out the Webster Area Bearcats 49-44 Friday, February 12, in the team’s last home game of the season. The Dawgs improved to 5-12 overall with the victory.
Milbank Area came out slow and sluggish in the first half. The Bulldogs trailed 21-12 at the end of the opening period and 24-17 at the midway mark. The teams played fairly even in the third quarter, and the Dawgs remained behind 36-28 heading into the final stanza.
Milbank Area buckled down and turned on the heat in the final quarter. A tough defense held Webster Area to just eight points while a solid offensive effort fired in 21 points to overtake the advantage and secure the win at 49-44
Three players scored in double figures for the locals. Jonny Ash led the Bulldogs with 16 points and three rebounds. Nate Bien tallied 10 points, four rebounds and one steal while Nolan Foss notched 10 points and three boards in the contest. Jacob Jackson tallied five points, three rebounds and one steal, and Isaac Snaza chipped in with five points and three rebounds.
Also adding to the totals for the Bulldogs were Tanner Gauer, two points; Matt Lenards, one point and one rebound, and Kyle Montag, two rebounds.
Milbank Area went 17 for 48 from the field for 35 percent shooting on the night. The Dawgs wrapped up the victory with 35 rebounds, two steals, one assist and just four turnovers.
Webster Area made 34 percent of its shots from the field, making 17 of 50 attempts. The Bearcats finished the game with 33 rebounds, four steals, one blocked shot and two turnovers.
The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season with three road games. Milbank Area will travel to Ortonville, MN, Tuesday, February 16, and to Clear Lake Friday, February 19. The Dawgs will travel to Madison Monday, February 22, for its final game before the region tournament
