Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank with Father Gary DeRouchey celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Mundwiler Funeral Home on Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to the Mass.

Music will be provided by Nancy Johnson, organist and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir. Honorary bearers will be all her friends and relatives. Casket bearers will be: Aaron Pew, Chad Pew, Bryan Pew, Scott Pew, Dylan Pew, Jacob Pew, Travis Nordstrom, and Jason Kaan.

Maxine “Cookie” Pew was born on October 24, 1931, in Sisseton, SD, to John Aaron and Zella Mae (Fehl) Crooks. She graduated from Wilmot High School with the class of 1948. On August 27, 1949, Maxine was united in marriage to Eugene Marshall Pew in Milbank. To this union, four children were born.

Maxine worked as a secretary to the superintendent at the Corona Public School. She and her husband owned G&C Grocery in Corona. She worked for the Corona Post Office as a postal clerk, and postmistress. She also was a Milbank mail carrier. She took extreme pride in her job and also did her very best.

Cookie’s family will treasure the memory of her great baking and cooking talents. She always enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee with her wonderful baked goods. Her grandchildren loved to play cards and games with her. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making matching outfits for her children. She enjoyed watching game shows on television and working crossword puzzles. Cookie loved to dance! She enjoyed music and always had music playing. She also enjoyed reading. Cookie was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Left to cherish Maxine’s memory are her children: Lynn Eugene (Lynette) Pew of Corona, SD; Reva Marie Rezac of Sioux Falls, SD; Cletus Alfred (Val) Pew of Estill Springs, TN; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sue Pew of Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Robert Crooks of Watertown, SD; sisters: Doris McFarlane of Wilmot, SD; Mavis (Robert) Doschadis of Wilmot, SD; sister-in-law, Rose Crooks of Watertown, SD and many nieces and nephews.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, John and Zella; husband, Eugene Pew; son, Jeff Pew; grandson, Shane Jeffery Pew; granddaughter, Ashley Johnson; son-in-law, Dick Rezac; sister-in-law, Josie Crooks; and brother, Max Crooks.
