_DSC0002 (3)Milbank police officer, Mike Morgan, will be the opening act at the Whetstone Arts Council fundraiser Friday, February 26, at the Valley Queen Training Center. He will perform from 7 until 8 pm when Jami Lynn Buttke will take the stage.

Morgan will sing a little bit of everything from country and pop to oldies. “I have loved singing my whole life,” he said.

Morgan grew up singing in church and often sang a cappella with his twin brother. His mom plays the piano by ear and the rest of his family, including his dad and sister, also enjoy singing. He was also a member of the Hot Springs High School swing choir during his high school years. “I was blessed with God-gifted talent,” he said humbly. “I never took any formal music lessons.”

Morgan’s singing has taken him on a wide array of musical experiences. He won a karaoke contest in 2005 where he was able to sing at an event prior to Toby Keith taking the stage. He also auditioned for the television show, The Voice, in 2012 and advanced to Las Vegas week, just short of being featured on TV.

Morgan has been with the Milbank Police Department full time since 2013. Prior to that he spent five years in the police reserve program. He served four years in the Marine Corp and is currently a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard with the HHC 139th unit from Brookings.
Morgan and wife, Holly, have four children. Eight-year-old Brenden, three-year-old twins Tristen and Levi and one year old Cobie.
