_DSC0022 (7)Students at Koch Elementary School in Milbank enjoyed activities and dress up days in celebration of Read Across America from February 29 through March 4. “The staff and administration focused on educating students about screen time. We encouraged each student to give up screen time and spend that time relaxing with a good book instead,” said Koch School Principal Tim Lease. “Many students accepted the challenge.”

A Dr. Seuss book was featured each day along with a dress up theme. The Sleep Book was featured Monday and students spent the day in pajamas or comfy clothing and enjoyed a day of reading. Tuesday the students and staff dressed in green in conjunction with Green Eggs and Ham. Wednesday was named Wacky Wednesday and students were encouraged to wear their clothes backwards, inside out, or mismatched. Community members also read books to the students in the afternoon.
For The Cat in the Hat Thursday, students were invited to wear their favorite hat during school. On Fox in Socks Friday, students sported silly or mismatched socks.
