Marlow “Sam” Oltman

Marlow “Sam” Oltman, age 73 of Milbank died March 27, 2016, at Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Bicknase will officiate.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. and continue on Friday, one hour prior to the service.

Music will be provided by Tim Mundwiler. Honorary bearers will be: Sam’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his coffee buddies; and the Gesswein Motors crew.

Marlow Leslie “Sam” Oltman was born October 1, 1942, in Milbank, SD. He was the son of Roy and Bernice (Buttke) Oltman. He attended school in Milbank and graduated with the class of 1960. He was united in marriage with Margaret Martin and later married Carol F. (Schuchard) Patnoe on November 17, 1978.

Sam lived all his life in Milbank. While in high school he worked for the Mercantile delivering groceries. He served in the Army National Guard for six years, driving a tanker truck. He farmed in Grant County until 2004. He worked at Valley Queen Cheese Factory. He also had worked for Community Oil Company delivering fuel and gas. Sam worked for Gesswein Motors for 35 years, driving vehicles to different dealerships. He drove truck for Ron’s Equipment Painting. Sam graciously donated the use of his land for the city fireworks display. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carol of Milbank, SD; children: Annette Oltman of Sioux Falls, SD; Angela Oltman (Mustafa Ergun) of Eden Prairie, MN; Terry (Carolyn) Patnoe of Milbank, SD; Debra (Rich) Diedrich of Sioux Falls, SD; Ronald (Candy) Patnoe of Temple, TX; Christine (Darwin) Knaus of Twin Brooks, SD; Jody Oltman (Jarod Evenson) of Boston, MA; ten grandchildren: Tony (Maddy) Diedrich, Sarah Diedrich, Tiffany Patnoe, Jennifer (Johnathan) Olson, Ashley Knaus, Heidi Thomson, Erin Thomson, Ronald Thomson, Cody Patnoe, and Alex Ergun; great-grandchildren: Parker Diedrich and Sophia Knaus; one sister, Lois (Gerald) Grimm of Milbank, SD; sisters-in-law: Kay Maples of Bullhead City, AZ; Dorothy Brehmer of Madison, MN; Celia Bothun of Columbia Heights, MN; Rose Estenson of Joplin, MO; Lucille (Jack) McGuire of Bullhead City, AZ; Darlene (Stanley) Nelson of Cottage Grove, MN; brother-in-law, Jim Nelson of Madison, MN; uncle, Delton Buttke of Milbank, SD and aunt, Mickey Buttke of Milbank.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bernice.
