Bernette Searcy

Bernette Searcy, age 87, of Milbank, SD, died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Golden Living.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Living Word Lutheran Church in Milbank with Rev. Craig Werling officiating. Burial will follow in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Casket bearers will be Bernette’s grandsons: Chad Bauman, Wyatt Bauman, Scott Searcy, Marc Searcy, Jeremy Bertsch, and Joshua Bertsch.

Bernette M. Searcy was born on May 1, 1928, to Harvey and Bertha (Blek) Moyer. She was the seventh of ten children. On November 19, 1948, Bernette was united in marriage with Ardell Searcy. They lived in Twin Brooks throughout their marriage until old age forced them to move. Bernette and Ardell loved their little town!

Bernette worked a variety of jobs but spent the most time working at Dakota Machines in Milbank for over 20 years.

Bernette was beloved by her family and friends, and will be dearly missed.

Bernette is survived by her daughters: Linda (Leonard) Bauman of Sioux Falls, SD, and JoAnn Holmquist of Cocoa, FL; daughter-in-law, Diana Searcy of Shakopee, MN; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Waege of South Shore, SD; brother, Eugene (Marlyce) Moyer of Watertown, SD; and brother-in-law, Merwin “Bud” (Jeanette) Searcy of Twin Brooks, SD.

Bernette was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 66 years, Ardell Francis Searcy on March 29, 2015; son, Steven Searcy; son-in-law, August Holmquist; 3 sisters; and 4 brothers.
