Local Hoopsters Featured in All-Star Games

Three local senior athletes from Milbank High School were featured in the Seventeenth Annual 2016 Pheasant Country All-Star Basketball Games Saturday, April 9, at Ben Reifel Gymnasium in Sisseton.

Nolan Foss was a member of the Class A boys’ team and Mikayla Street and Shelby Hooth were part of the Class A girls’ team.

The Class B girls defeated the Class A girls, 35-23, and the Class A boys dominated the Class B boys with a score of 74-56. Foss led the Class A team with 14 points. Michaela Kranz of Waverly-South Shore was named the girls MVP, and Paul Munro of Wilmot was MVP for the boys.

A three-point contest was held for both the boys and girls with a dunk competition added for the boys. Reigning as three-point champions for the girls were Kassi Jones of Britton-Hecla and Kenzie Jackson of Rosholt. Jared Rabenberg of Britton-Hecla and Nicholas Buttke of Wilmot were boys three-point champions. Ethan Kranhold of Sisseton won the dunk contest.

Members of the Class A boys’ team were Eric Wegleitner, Britton-Hecla; Cully Olson, Britton-Hecla; Jared Rabenberg, Britton-Hecla; Hunter Lerew, Groton Area; Aaron Severson, Groton Area; Nolan Foss, Milbank Area; Ethan Kranhold, Sisseton; Matthew Nieland, Sisseton; Andrew Fitz, Sisseton; Jarrod Appenay, Tiospa Zina; Noah Thurston, Webster Area; and Jordan Bauer, Webster Area. The Class A boys were coached by Logan Diede of Mitchell.

Members of the Class B boys’ team were Jordan Carson, Langford; Joshua Punt, Langford; Alex Krueger, Rosholt; Trestin Pistorius, Rosholt; Jordan Vermillion, Waubay-Summit; Carson Britzman, Waverly-South Shore; Bailey Comes, Waverly-South Shore; Jacob Boettcher, Waverly-South Shore; Nicholas Buttke, Wilmot; and Paul Munro, Wilmot. They were coached by Garrett Schmidt of Huron.

The roster for the Class A girls included: Kassi Jones, Britton-Hecla; Toni Symens, Britton-Hecla; Carly Wheeting, Groton Area; Mikayla Street, Milbank Area; Shelby Hooth, Milbank Area; Persephone Eastman, Tiospa Zina; Cami Goodhart, Sisseton; Shayli Toelle, Sisseton; and Shawna Hanson, Webster Area. The Class A girls were coached by Sara Holmberg of Dell Rapids.
