Thue Earns Top Hurdler Award

The Milbank Area boys and girls track teams battled tough weather conditions and tough competition during the Groton Kiwanis Relays track and field meet Tuesday, April 26. Freshman Taylor Thue took home the Rob Luecke Top Hurdler award.

Thue led the girls team with two first place finishes in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She was .04 of a second away from qualifying for the state meet in the 100-meter hurdles. She ran the event in a time of :16.04, just missing the mark of :16.00. Thue also was a member of the winning girls 400-meter relay with teammates Kimberly Van Sambeek, Makayla Johnson, and Elisabeth Schwenn.

The girls team finished second overall, just 10 points behind team champion, Ipswich. The Milbank Area boys landed third in the team standings with 83.5 points. The boys 400- meter and 1,600-meter sprint medley relays each claimed top place in the meet. The medley relay was just two seconds shy of the state qualifying mark. The Bulldogs will compete in the Sisseton Legion Relays Friday, April 29, beginning at 1 p.m.
