IMG_1232Four Grant County 4-H youth members will host a Bike Rodeo/Safety Day Thursday, May 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Grant County 4-H Grounds. Registration will be from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Chairman William Karels, along with committee members Benett Street, Tatum Berry, and Hailey Hupke, will host the free event for kindergarten through fifth grade age students. The program will include educational sessions, a safety ambulance session, a riding course, games, a coloring contest and lunch. Participants will receive free bike helmets and have the chance to win a bike.
The idea of a Bike Rodeo was conceived three years ago when William Karels realized his younger sister, Hope, had never had bike safety training. The 4-H youth committee members are working with: Grant County 4-H, Milbank City Police Department, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Grant-Roberts Ambulance Service, Milbank Area Hospital Avera, Avera Medical Group Milbank, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol on this event.

Thrivent Financial is also supporting the event. Bikes have been donated by Seehafer Ace Hardware and the ShopKo Foundation. “We thank the many local businesses for their donations and support of this event,” stated Susan Karels, mother to William and Hope.

Registration forms were sent home from school. Completed forms must be back to the school office or the 4-H office by Wednesday, May 11, in order to receive a t-shirt.
