Six athletes from Milbank High School participated in the Northeast Area Special Olympics Spring Games in Watertown Friday, April 29.

Winning first place in the individual 100 meter dash were Tyler Johnson, Mariah Pillatzki, Jacob O’Donnell and Briar Zuraff. Second place in the event went to Makenzie Wittrock, and Courtney Kroemer took third.

Johnson earned a first place finish in the 50 meter dash while O’Donnell landed in third in the 200 meter dash. Pillatzki, Kroemer, O’Donnell and Zuraff each captured a first place finish in the standing long jump. Wittrock finished third overall. In the softball throw, Kroemer finished first, Pillatzki was third, Johnson and Zuraff landed in fourth and Wittrock took sixth place.

The 400 meter co-ed relay team of Johnson, O’Donnell, Zuraff and Wittrock earned a third place finish overall.

“The team had an outstanding day competing in their various events,” stated Joyce Johnson, MHS teacher. She was assisted by Abbey Trapp. Jeremy Tostenson helped prepare the students during their adaptive physical education class.

The group also celebrated the year with a banquet at Pizza Ranch last week. Each student received an award for participating in the track and field meet. The three seniors – Chris Stodolski, Tyler Johnson and Mariah Pillatzki received a senior award for taking part in Special Olympics throughout their high school careers.
