The Milbank Firechiefs suffered a 7-5 amateur baseball loss to Clear Lake Wednesday, May 18, in their first road game of the season. The Chiefs fell to 1-1 with the loss.
Clear Lake started out hot in the opening inning plating two runs. Milbank answered with three runs in the fourth inning to overtake the lead at 3-2. The opponent belted in five runs in the seventh inning to go ahead 7-3. The Chiefs scored one run in each the eighth and ninth innings, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Milbank scored its five runs on nine hits for the night. Ryan Conrad led the locals with four hits and two runs. Jeff Fish collected two hits while Jesse Krause and Brock Gomer added one hit and one run apiece. Lance Frogner tallied one hit while Taylor Boerger scored one run to complete the totals for the Firechief offense.
Tyler Reil started on the mound for Milbank and was given the loss. He sat down four batters while allowing 10 hits, seven runs and three walks. Lance Frogner came in on relief.
The Chiefs will host Lake Norden at Legion Field Sunday, May 22, at 5 p.m.
