While school may be out for students in Milbank, the Grant County Public Library is ensuring that kids will have fun learning all summer long. The library will be hosting two reading programs this summer. The theme for the preschool through fifth grade reading program is “On Your Mark, Get Set – Read.” Middle school students in grades five through eight will enjoy “Get In The Game – Read.”
The elementary program will begin June 1. All participants will record their reading time to earn book bucks to spend in the Library Store. Each Wednesday at 2 p.m. from June 8 through July 13, children will enjoy games, crafts, Yoga, Zumba, Summer Reading Program Olympics to Ignite Fitness, movies, meetings with successful athletes, and a visit from special guest Indiana Bones. Incentive game sheets, activity packets, and reading goal achievements will count towards extra prizes.
The middle school program will run from June 1 through July 20. Students who completed fifth through eighth grade can earn points for reading, volunteering, participating in activities and taking part in challenges. A finale party is set for Wednesday, July 20 from 7-10 p.m. with pizza, games, movie, a Nerf gun war, and more.
“Thank you for the support from many local businesses,” said Tammy Wollschlager, library assistant. “These programs are designed to offer children incentives for reading and opportunities for fun!”
Completed registrations must be returned to the library by May 31. For more information or questions, please contact the library at 432-6543.
