The Milbank Area Summer Backpack Program is underway this week, but is still accepting enrollments according to organizer Jenn Falk. “We have had just one distribution date so far, so there is time to enroll. The enrollment process works the same as during the school year. Families can enroll or discontinue the program at anytime.”

The next distribution date is Thursday, May 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. “Unlike the school program, the summer program cannot be completely confidential because families need to come pick up the food directly from the church. However the times set are when there is low traffic in the church building.”

Food must be picked up by an adult family member. The bags will contain a three-day supply of food with the menu similar to the school year program. Three breakfast entrees, three lunch/supper entrees, three snacks and juice boxes/pouches will be included in the packages.

Two distribution times per week have been scheduled. Families may choose one time per week to pick up their packages. Distribution times are Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. The program will run through Thursday, September 8. At that time, the school year program will take over its normal weekly distributions through the schools.

Enrollment forms are available at Central Church or with Heather Rise at the Interlakes Community Action office in the courthouse. For questions or more information please contact Jenn Falk at 605-467-3293 or Sandy MacMillan at 605-949-2475.
