_DSC0014 (2)The Milbank American Legion Post #9 baseball team cruised to three victories en route to the championship title. The Arnold Larsen Legion baseball tournament was held Friday through Sunday, June 3-5, at Legion Field in Milbank.

Post 9 started off its run with a 6-2 victory over Volga Friday. The locals battled it out with Aurora in the semi-final game Saturday, and came away with a 4-3 win in nine innings. Milbank then secured a 4-1 victory over Redfield to claim the championship trophy Sunday.

In its opening game Friday, Milbank collected its six runs on six hits. Brady Krause, Tanner Gauer, Jacob Jackson, Tristan Hall, Jake Anderson and Brady Gomer each tallied one hit in the contest. Hall was credited with the victory on the mound for Post 9.

In its second game, Milbank’s four runs came from nine hits, with Gomer securing the victory with a game winning hit in the ninth inning. Hall belted out a home run and added two hits in the contest. Dylan Johnson, Jackson and Riley Van Sambeek each added two hits for the locals. Dominic Boerger earned the pitching win.

In the championship tilt, Milbank belted out seven hits and scored four runs in its victory over Redfield. Krause and Anderson led the team with two hits each while Johnson, Hall and Gauer added one apiece. Hall put a ball over the fence for his second home run of the tournament. Boerger earned the win on the mound for Post 9.

Milbank captured two big wins over Groton in the home opener Tuesday, May 31, at Legion Field. Post 9 won 11-1 in the first game and 9-0 in the nightcap.

In the opening contest, Milbank collected 11 runs on 9 hits. Krause, Mitch Quade and Dalton Koch led the team with two hits each, and Gauer, Jackson and Hall had one apiece. Gauer, Jackson, Hall, Quade and Riley Van Sambeek each pounded out a double in the game. Hall was the winning pitcher for Post 9.

In the second game of the double header, Jonny Ash, Boerger and Jackson led the offense with two hits each. Nolan Foss rounded out the attack with one hit. Boerger earned the win on the mound for Milbank.
