Harvey Dale Wellnitz was born on March 23, 1925, on the family farm in Revillo, SD, to Edward and Milly (Ebsen) Wellnitz. He attended school in Albee through the eighth grade and one year of High School in Milbank before staying home to help on the family farm. He did so until September 2, 1950, when Harvey was drafted into the United States Army. He served until his honorable discharge on September 23, 1952.
After his discharge, Harvey returned to the farm where he took very good care of his parents and brother, Gene. He was very active in the community, serving as President of the Revillo Elevator for 20 years and supervisor of Adams Township. He belonged to the country club and the Revillo American Legion. Harvey was also a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served as chairman and elder.
Harvey’s true passion in life was farming and he was blessed to spend many years farming until his retirement in 2001. After retirement Harvey and his lifelong neighbor, Gordon Schnauser, enjoyed traveling together, visiting friends and family along the way. He was proud to have traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, and two thirds of the other states. Harvey also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, puzzle books, jigsaw puzzles, and having coffee with friends at Trevett’s.
