_DSC0273The Milbank Firechiefs amateur baseball team is firing on all cylinders. They added three more wins to their record this week. The Chiefs have compiled a 10-2 record with wins over Aurora, Castlewood, and Clear Lake.

Milbank hosted Aurora Wednesday, June 15, and battled to an 11-7 win. Aurora led 6-0 after an inning and a half. The locals plated six runs in the second inning to knot the score up at 6-6. The Chiefs went ahead 7-6 in the sixth, but the opponent tied the score again at 7-7 after seven innings of play. Milbank used a big eighth inning to put the game out of reach and win 11-7.

Jesse Krause led the Firechiefs with three hits, including a double, three runs, and one RBI. Matt Stephan followed with three hits, one run, and three RBIs. He also hit a double. Jeff Fish added two hits, two runs, and one RBI and Lance Frogner had one hit and two runs. Also contributing to Milbank’s 12 hits, were Ronnie Krause, Travis Lester, and Brock Gomer with one hit apiece.

J. Krause started on the mound for the Firechiefs and earned the win. He struck out eight batters and gave up six hits, seven runs, and seven walks.
Milbank slipped past the Castlewood Monarchs 3-1 Friday, June 17, in a road contest. The Chiefs scored all three of their runs in the opening inning and held on to win.

Stephan and Taylor Boerger led the team with two hits each. J. Krause, R. Krause, and Lester tallied one each of the team’s seven-hits.

Frogner secured the win on the mound for the Firechiefs. He sat down 16 batters and gave up five hits, one run, and two walks.

The team also rolled to a 12-2 victory over Clear Lake Sunday, June 19. The game was called early due to the 10-run rule.

Frogner belted out three hits, two runs, and one RBI to lead Milbank. Stephan, Lester, and Dan Karges added two hits each while J. Krause, R. Krause, Boerger, Gomer, and Tyler Reil had one hit apiece. Karges connected for two doubles and Stephan had one.

Karges earned the pitching win for Milbank. He struck out six batters and allowed four hits, two runs, and one walk. Boerger came in on relief in the final two innings. He sat down three batters and gave up one walk.
