Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City on Friday, July 1, at 11:00 a.m. Padre’ Da’vid Garza will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. followed by a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, one hour prior to the Mass. Honorary bearers will be all Gene’s grandchildren.

Eugene Allen Cloos was born February 10, 1935, in Bristol, SD. He was the son of Allen and Elizabeth (Scoblic) Cloos. He attended school in Big Stone City. He was united in marriage with Beverly Jurgens on June 10, 1953, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ortonville.

Gene worked three years in Minneapolis, then returned to Big Stone City. He purchased the Standard Station along with his two brothers. He was later the sole owner and operated it 41 years. He sold fishing bait and tackle. He also sold fireworks at Gene’s Fireworks in Big Stone City for 40 plus years.

Gene and Beverly were blessed with seven children. They remember fun hunting and fishing adventures with their father. Gene bowled on a team for several years. Failing eye sight forced his retirement. He was a faithful member of St. Charles Catholic Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Beverly of Big Stone City, SD; children: Thomas Cloos of Golden Valley, AZ; Gregory (Jeanne) Cloos of Big Stone City, SD; Pamela (Denny) Hayes of Elk River, MN; Deborah (Paul) Thiele of Corona, SD; Teresa (Bob) Goergen of Big Stone City, SD; Angela (Danny) Swenson of Rosemount, MN; Julie (Doug) Enstad of Big Stone City, SD; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Cloos of Big Stone City, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; and one granddaughter, Trista Jean.
